What is The Mountain?

In addition to being a protruding mound of rock and dirt often found covered with trees, various plant species, boulders and debris, the Mountain may represent relationships, phases of life, failure & success, addiction, personal goals, and perspective to name a few.

Several years ago, the Mountain served as a place of solitude- an escape from environments and habits I so desperately attempted to remove myself. Soon enough, I realized the Mountain was no longer an escape but rather a classroom; it became my temple upon which I would explore, discover, and acquire new perspectives, tools & skillsets. Furthermore, the Mountain had become my playground as it reminded me of the everlasting enjoyment derived from nature’s simplicities.

Eventually, I’d learned the Mountain was not only a place but an object- better known to be a mirror- in which I could see parts of myself; for example, rugged edges and loose rock turned avalanche were bottled up emotions; the steep grade reflected intolerable behaviors; the landscape portrayed my character- vibrant and beautiful yet dry and desolate; the summit acted as the widespread challenges I am to face no matter how difficult. As the Mountain appears brute in stature from a distance, I did too. If anyone were to come close enough, I would simply distance myself further avoiding the exposure of any imperfections. I was the Mountain many sought to be strong & invincible, though I was crumbling beneath the surface.

Through the opposite lens, the Mountain had seen me to be small, powerless, weak, insignificant, incapable, inconvenient, and trespassing; though, also to be strong, bold-hearted, brave, willing & able, daring, loving and alike. In other words, the Mountain lets us choose who we want to be. The choice is ours!

Given the Mountain’s unpredictable conditions & strenuous demands, I was required to perform at a level that would further promote a transformation of self into the best version of me, ultimately increasing my odds for survival & success. From heightened senses & awareness to newfound perspectives and insights regarding my existence, choosing to live up to these new sets of standards and ways of being has had a profound impact thus far.

To this day, there’s been no greater influence on my character and well-being than the Mountain itself. Join me for a day on the Mountain- I assure you’ll love the person you become!
